Even today, people still utilize the Vulcan salute “Live Long and Prosper”. This iconic phrase goes way beyond Star Trek fans. Not only was it a staple on Star Trek, it has been referred to on many shows, such as The Big Bang Theory.
It has become a part of American pop culture. What most people don’t know, is that the hand gesture itself is a slight modification of the Hebrew gesture forming the letter “Shin”, which represents the name “Shaddai” meaning “Almighty” (God). It was based on a Jewish Kohanim priestly blessing, which Leonard used and modified for the Vulcan salute.
Of the many things Leonard Nimoy added many things to his character, Spock, on the show, the Vulcan salute can be considered most famous addition…Just look at the picture above!
